Statement of Intent
NEA statement
of intent:
Media institutions
In my
posters, I will make sure I comply with the ASA rules. As an example, I will
include no content that may cause any fear or distress to the audience as these
can been seen by a variety of people as they will be displayed on billboards,
many of which will not be the target audience of 16-25 years old. The
documentary will not be shown before watershed (9pm) as it may contain
sensitive themes like violence, criminality and anti-social behaviour that may
not be suitable for a younger audience or people who have had trauma/issues
with theses topics as they may upset or cause distress.
Media
representations
My
documentary will be about the struggles for teenagers in cities. The title will
be ‘Under the City Lights’ and will include positive representations of
teenagers to appeal to the 16-25-year-old audience interested in groundbreaking
documentaries. I aim to highlight some of the struggles teenagers who live in
urban areas face so the target audience can relate to it and feel represented
in a positive and authentic way. The slogan will be ‘The teenage reality in
cities’ to reinforce the idea that the teenagers have struggles that will be
addressed in the documentary.
Media
Audience & Media Language
In my
posters, I will include teenagers in my images to appeal to a 16–25-year-old
audience. To connote the ‘dark’ struggles that they face, I will include black
in my colour scheme but to connote hope for the teenagers in cities, I will also
include gold. To appeal to this audience, I will make the designs look creative
and youthful and use sans serif font. I will use some high angle shots to imply
that the teenagers in the documentary are gaining power and are being
represented positively. The posters will be set in a city to have the
conventions of a documentary about a city. I will also include the BBC 3 logo
to further meet the conventions of a documentary poster. There will be a cover
line on each poster saying when/ where the documentary will be released.
